SOURCEGRAPH / Developer tools / Partner since 2021

A five-year creative partnership with Sourcegraph. Building visual systems behind one of the most ambitious developer tools companies in the world.

Sourcegraph builds AI-powered code intelligence tools for developers and engineering teams, helping them search, understand, and improve large codebases at any scale. Their platform is used by some of the largest engineering organizations in the world.

We started working with Sourcegraph in 2021 with a brand audit that became their first official brand guide. Since then the partnership has spanned two distinct brand eras, a product spin-off, and a complete internal rebrand. Through all of it we've stayed close, adapted to what the brand needed, and kept showing up as a trusted extension of their team.

The partnership at a glance

2025 • Adapting to what came next

Following the internally-led rebrand, we worked with the team to develop a new illustration strategy. We defined a new visual style that inspires brand engagement: marketing campaigns, animations, ads, reports and ebooks, event collateral, etc.

2022 • The illustration system

A custom illustration style built from strategy — the visual language for product storytelling across marketing, launches, and campaigns.

2021 • Building the foundation

Logo refinement, brand guidelines, icon system, trade show booths, swag, blog templates, homepage illustrations, ebooks, marketing assets.

2025 • Adapting to what came next

Sourcegraph's internal team built an entirely new brand system. We didn't lead that work, but when it was done, the team, asked us to take a front seat on art direction and design for the new illustration strategy. They knew we would deliver. Our service areas include Brand Strategy and Positioning, Identity Design Systems, Ongoing Design Partnerships, Creative for Tech and Product Companies.

Through four years of collaboration, we’d become Sourcegraph’s trusted partner. That trust shapes how we work. No lengthy briefs or formal presentations. We move quickly, build on each other's thinking, and make decisions the way an internal team does. Iterative, open, pragmatic.

The brief itself was sharp: Sourcegraph had evolved from a developer search tool into something bigger, the protocol that ensures humans, agents, repos, and systems all understand each other. The illustration style needed to reflect that shift. Less cosmic intelligence, more structured interoperability.

The internal team at Sourcegraph provided initial conceptual territories for us to elaborate on and start to visualize. We landed on Protocol Aesthetics: confidence in communication. Continuous linework suggesting signal paths, strict grids with occasional controlled breaks, diagrams that feel like modernized technical specifications. Minimal and disciplined. Technical but stylish.

From there we developed core concept illustrations, created value graphics, and custom hero art for several marketing campaigns with ads, reports, blog graphics, and event collateral. The work lives in Sourcegraph's Core Brand Figma, ready to be extended and collaborated on as the brand continues to evolve.

Grafik feels like an extension of our own internal team. They are fully engaged in our brand and project timelines, accessible, and transparent at every stage. We know we can count on Grafik's team to produce quality work on time, every time.

2022 • The illustration system

Sourcegraph needed a way to make complex developer concepts feel human and legible to a technical audience that had seen every tired SaaS visual cliché.Through four years of collaboration, we’d become Sourcegraph’s trusted partner. That trust shapes how we work. No lengthy briefs or formal presentations. We move quickly, build on each other's thinking, and make decisions the way an internal team does. Iterative, open, pragmatic.

We built a custom illustration system from the ground up. Technical precision balanced with warmth. Simplicity balanced with specificity. It became the visual language Sourcegraph used across marketing, product launches, blog posts, ebooks, and campaigns.
